BWSL Meeting Minutes
January 14, 2008
I –Roll Call:
Fury and 2 X’treme were missing representatives. Introductions were made and guests were welcomed.
II – Communication Reports from Board Members:
A. Vice President: Jennifer Reeves:
1. Top 4 teams from the Fall season will be playing in the A division: Renegades, Ravens, X’treme, Panthers
2. Bottom 4 teams will be playing in the B division: Rocking Flamingos, PHI, 2 X’treme, Fury
3. Top 2 teams: Renegades ($150 credit) Ravens ($75 credit)
4. Need to open up registration and set deadline for Spring season.
5. We need to have to have at least 8 teams in the league to move forward with the 2 divisions. Everyone agreed.
B. Secretary: Jean Ansourian: not present; nothing to report.
C. Treasurer: Trudy Pitters:
1. Bank account has a balance of $5800, but we have not paid state for player’s passes or ref assignor ($300) yet. State invoice was $4400; however, we still need to delete some players from our Excel file that had duplicate passes or who left the league.
2. Teresa has only heard from X’treme, 2 X’treme, and Rocking Flamingos. She needs to have a list of players who have left the league from EVERY team, coed and women’s!!
3. Bania needs to recalculate the cost for Spring Season; we might have to increase the fee to $65 (as opposed to $60) if the budget warrants it. Everyone agreed.
4. Trudy purchased Quicken software to help with the account.
5. $4something check for state registration for spring and summer; we closed the account and check didn’t clear (since it was written on the Wachovia account), so we had to rewrite the check plus a $5 fee.
III – Unfinished Business:
A. Spring Season:
1. Bania will create Web pages for each team so registration is very easy and simple for everyone involved. Anyone with sponsorship or credits must let Bania know ASAP! PHI has sponsor money, but Gail has to check how much.
2. Registration deadline is Feb 3rd!! 8 teams total now (if X’treme has enough players, see below). Any new players MUST register via Teresa!
3. Jenny brought up the concern that X’treme is very low on players and we might have to combine the two teams. Bania suggested looking at the website and try to get some interested players off there. Jenny will contact the girls on the website to try and find some extra players.
4. It was suggested that we could supplement the B division with Mich Lite players (there is a long waiting list for the Mich Lite league) or we could have rec play on a separate field for these players – “pick up” for them. A way to get some extra money into the league. It was suggested that someone contact Betty Ann Gallager; Gail offered to have someone from her team (that knows her better) contact Betty Ann and report back to us.
5. Online registration rules. It was decided unanimously that we would address any special circumstances as they arise.
B. Referee Liaison:
Marie Amatulli has agreed to be the Referee Liaison. Her email is mamtulli@bellsouth.net
C. BWSL Tournament:
The tournament will be held Saturday 2.2.08.
1. Marketing.
Bania will resend email to all BWSL players. Edison and Israel will pass along to men’s teams. Paula (Ravens rep) will put up flyers at the Paladium. Bania will pass out flyers at Soccer Resort tourney.
2. Too many teams???
If we have too many teams then we won’t be able to guarantee everyone 3 games. The flyer said max 6 teams per division. With only 1 field per division, it could take up to 10 hours to finish the games! Problem is goals. Trudy offered to call around and ask about borrowing more goals or possibly renting them. Teresa will contact Michelle Smith about goals. Bania will check and see if an additional field is available at the park for that day.
3. Prizes
a. 1st place.
9 men’s white tank tops, 19 women’s t shirts, and 18 women’s tanks. We already have these so it was decided that we could give these away as prizes. We also have lots of soccer bags we could use.
b. 2nd place.
We still have lots of koozies so we will give out koozies to all 2nd place teams.
4. Set up/need to bring.
a. Soccer balls. Instead of purchasing soccer balls it was agreed that we would bring our own.
b. Dry erase board for stats. If anyone has one, please bring; otherwise we might need to go buy one.
c. Tents. Various people said they had tents they could bring.
d. We need help setting up. Jenny and Teresa volunteered to take care of registration; we also need help setting up the fields and anything else!
IV - New Business
None.
NEXT MEETING: MONDAY 2/18/08 AT 7:00PM AT TERESA’S HOUSE
